Network Administration is essentially the

management and maintenance of a computer network. Duties include System Log Reviews, Anti virus and virus removal, adware, spyware and malware removal, server configurations, adding users, user maintenance. Often installing programs, services, configuring routers and firewalls, wireless, switches perimeter hard/software and hubs. Programming and database development. System maintenance and architecture. Building computers, servers, and nodes from raw hardware. Installing and maintaining operating systems and setting up network connections.
Computers are complex and complicated. Infinitely configurable and a challenge to maintain when considered in a complex network environment. Remote access to data and network resources is fast becoming a necessity to todays business. Troubleshooting and repair can become exponentially difficult with each new node and workstation. Each requires connectivity, through a medium, and a system account. Considering the burst of new portable and network ready devices, this trend is likely to continue.
Backups are the most critical task set forward for network administrators. From user files, to critical system files, program development and documentation, the role of backup is essential and cannot be overlooked. Consider the first rules of computing, Backup, Backup, Backup... and save early and save often. Securing and preserving critical data and business logic through systematic backups is tantamount to all other tasks.
Finally the purpose of a network is for content creation. Whether it is CAD designs and plans, or multimedia content for advertising, education or entertainment. There are virtually limitless applications to create an information architecture. Applying business models and logic create lucrative opportunities in any industry. The internet, web, e-mail and web applications create a virtual landscape just ripe for development. |
